Nerd rock founders Weezer return this year with their 8th studio record. After the extremely mixed reviews their preceding album (Raditude) received, what's the story on Weezer's new album, Hurley?
1) Memories
An average pop song with a captivating chorus, and stereotypically simple Weezer lyrics. Showcasing support vocals by Johnny Knoxville and the crew!
2) Ruling Me
Sometimes the newer Weezer tunes have been attacked for being too superficial, and this tune is not going to ease that criticism. Nevertheless, it's terrific for what it is: a simple, high energy power-pop song.
3) Trainwrecks
This is a more serious, more thoughtful, slower tune with beautiful rock guitars and expressive hooks.
4) Unspoken
Best song on the record. Starting out as a gentle and breezy acoustic tune, with a little atmospheric flute, it concludes with some intense guitar!
5) Where's my sex?
This is a dirtier track, but just in regards to the sound; not the lyrics. It's not about sex, strangely, it's about socks. Kind of uninspired, but the bridge is cool.
6) Run Away
Profound and emotional song, with an angsty, almost resentful feeling. The most meaningful song on the record, co-written along with Ryan Adams.
7) Hold On
Excellent example of pop-rock. The catchy repetition of the track takes control of your soul and pulls you along with it.
8 ) Smart Girls
Tracks like this are probably why Weezer lyrics get criticised. You'll either really enjoy it or skip it. Fluffy, run-of-the-mill and feels manufactured.
9) Brave New World
This track has some vigor to it, but doesn't seem to get anywhere. A little weak.
10) Time Flies
Seems almost like a demo, a cool song to sing along with. A cute little song with a different vibe to the other tunes of the album.

In conclusion, a large advancement on the last album. A good, entertaining pop CD, if not pioneering or inspiring.
