Placing A Large Bird Feeder - Things To Remember

When you look around a beautifully landscaped garden there are certain aspects that you are most certainly going to observe. Among other elements of a landscaping design, one of them is often a large bird feeder. It helps beautify the yard and at the same time draws birds to be appreciated by everyone in the family.

Of course, if a homeowner wants to maximize the full effect of a feeder they should make a good decision as to what specific one they want to buy and where it will be put in the landscaping. Both of these things are important elements that will make or break your actual goal.

Positioning of a feeder is the same as anything else dealing with real estate. The primary thing to consider is location, location, location. If it is set too far from where people will be sitting or can easily see the wild birds then it eliminates the calming and soothing touch of bird watching. Set it too close to a dwelling or where the kids play and the birds will avoid using it.

But distance is really part of the equation. How your large bird feeder is mounted will also really count. For example, a pole-mounted type allows the freedom to mount it wherever a homeowner prefers. While these are very common and well worth the effort of mounting there is a drawback: squirrels. They are experts at climbing and can traverse up a pole with little effort. Soon your bird sees will be feeding a lot of squirrels.

There are actually solutions around these foragers. There are squirrel-proof models that will enable birds to come and go easily, but make it virtually impossible for a squirrel to enter. These are a little more intricate than a standard large bird feeder, and therefore more expensive, so it comes down to how seriously you want to stop those silly squirrels from entering the bird's food source.

While putting a large bird feeder is an asset to a yard, having the wrong model for the situation is not only a waste of money, but it cheats the birds from a viable food source that they may want. A good course of action may be to check out a garden center and see what designs are offered.

However, your best course may be to check all the different models of bird feeders online to find what you want. There is a larger variety available via the Internet. Surfing the Internet on your netbook searching for a large bird feeder while watching the birds that already come to your patio may be just the motivation you need.
